Deaf Day of Play - Strong National Museum of Play - March 29, 2025

Deaf Day of Play at The Strong National Museum of Play on March 29th! It sounds like a fantastic day filled with fun and learning.
Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) and The Strong National Museum of Play are teaming up to put on this special event. They'll have all sorts of activities, performances, and learning opportunities, and everything will be interpreted, which is awesome! Plus, students from NTID’s Department of American Sign Language and Interpreter Education Program will be there to provide ASL assistance throughout the day.
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s planned:
- Butterfly Garden Exploration: Get up close with beautiful butterflies and learn from a museum biologist (11 a.m. & 2 p.m. - additional fees may apply).
- NTID PLAY Lab Fun: Discover how early sensory experiences shape us at NTID’s Perception, Language and Attention in Youth (PLAY) Lab (Adams Atrium, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.).
- Story Time with ASL: Enjoy captivating stories told in ASL by the Rochester School for the Deaf (Adams Atrium, 11:30 a.m. & 1 p.m.).
- Creative ASL Art: Explore the ASL alphabet and create some neat artwork in the Play Lab!
- "The Cracked Nut" Performance: Catch NTID’s exciting new show, a fresh take on the Nutcracker set in 1940s Harlem (Paychex Theater, 1:30 p.m.).
- Cool Artifacts: See interesting items highlighting sign language and the Deaf community’s impact on play (Adams Atrium).
