Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS)

Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) is a research-driven, school-wide method designed to teach positive behaviors to all students. We use a tiered system to enhance positive school behaviors. This system provides a framework for recognizing students who follow rules and exhibit appropriate behaviors while also offering support for those who struggle with these behaviors.

The PBIS initiative for students is known as HERD, which stands Health and Safety, Effort, Respect, and dependability. Students at SMSD receive HERD reteaching and reminders in all areas of the campus, from the lunchroom to the classroom and the playground.
