Game Recaps 2025-2026

This past weekend, the Delaware School for the Deaf Blue Hawks drove up through New York to play the Western New York area schools for the Deaf in Rochester and Buffalo. Our match was last Friday night.
Out of the 5 games we have played, this one was the most physically brutal. Referees treated the game like it was hockey! Thankfully, no one was injured.
The Bisons coaches' intention was to stay with one group of players in the first half regardless and change to a second group in the second half. Captain Yaser Abdollahi led the first group which also included rookie Nick Labelle, Caleb Zirpola, Fahim Shah, and Ifeanyi Nwebueze. Yaser successfully scored a few three pointers and managed to help defensively very well. The lead went back and forth. At halftime, the score was 19-20, Blue Hawks.
The second group, Dylan Lewis, Khyier Richardson, Jaryel Negaton-Vasquez, Hussam Alabid, and Yaser, brought up our score a bit further.
In the fourth quarter, Fahim and Ifeanyi were subbed back in. Strong performances by these original starting players helped give the Bisons a solid and steady lead and the game ended with a win, 45-27.
Yaser came up with 23 points. Dylan and Fahim each scored 10 points. Ifeanyi chipped in with 2.
Record: Win-4; Loss-1

The Bisons once again hosted the CAWNY Eagles Thursday afternoon.
The game between the two teams was competitive, but unlike last Tuesday which was fierce!
Many unnecessary turnovers and missed shots affected our opportunity to win, however the boys worked hard and played their best.
Dylan Lewis didn't break any records this game, but still was the high scorer with 23 total points. Yaser Abdolliahi contributed 15 points.
The final score was 48-55.

The Bisons hosted the CAWNY Eagles yesterday. We played the Eagles in soccer last fall and their players were very young rookies. CAWNY is a small school similar to ours. Since the opponents of our first two games were JV and very young, our first stringer players haven’t had the chance to play much. We were hoping the Eagles' basketball team would not be the young players from soccer. It turns out more than half of them aren't! We were thrilled to play a competitive team!
The Bisons' starters (Dylan Lewis, Yaser Abdollahi, Ifeanyi Nwebueze, Jaryel Negaton-Vasquez, and Fahim Shah) felt the impact of the Eagles' aggressiveness for the first time this season. Our boys couldn't find the rhythm to their shots, and even simple lay-ups! The Eagles outscored the Bisons by 15 points in the first half! 14-29!
During halftime in the locker room, the Bisons’ coaches told the boys that the coaches were excited for the boys to experience a real match and it was okay that mistakes were made and they should just keep on playing and find their rhythm.
After returning to the game for the second half, The Bisons played unbelievably! Their energy came bursting out in every play! Dylan Lewis pulled up the Bisons’ score so fast in the third quarter alone, surpassing the Eagles with his many amazing 3-point shots! 41-37!
In the last quarter, the Eagles sent their full starters back to the court to regain the leading score they had in the first half! There were very fierce performances put forth by two teams both striving for a win toward the end! Within a minute left in the game, the score was tied! Captain Yaser and Dylan went for a fast break. Yaser laid up and scored! The Bisons won 51-49!!
Dylan Lewis - 39 points and Player of the Game!
Yaser Abdollahi - 6 points
Jaryel Negaton-Vasquez - 4
Wins - 3 Losses - 0

The Bisons travelled to Rome, NY this past afternoon to play the Trojans of the New York State School for the Deaf.
The Trojans were outmatched allowing our first-string boys to be on the bench for most of the game and giving Nick Labelle, Khyier Richardson, Hussam Alabid, and Caleb Zirpola the opportunity to enhance their skills.
Our center, Jaryel Negaton-Vasquez, led the scoring with 20 points followed by our point guard, Dylan Lewis with 16, and Fahim Shah at forward with 10.
The final score was 76-41.

The Bisons had its season opener against the Amherst Christian Academy Panthers JV team this evening .
Since we played the Panthers' JV team and the roster is very young, the Bisons' substitutes had an opportunity to play the whole game. Our boys played well and were able to score points! Caleb Zirpola was our highest scorer with 14 points. The Panthers tried their best, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Bisons.
The final score was 47 -14
Win - 1 Loss- 0
