Game Recaps 2025

10/22/25

This past afternoon, the  Bisons headed to Perry, NY to play in the semi finals against the Gilead School Warriors.

Both teams played their hearts out in the rain and cold! The Warriors had an advantage over the Bisons with their deep bench of substitutes who rotated every few minutes.  Despite that, our boys, especially our captain, Yaser Abdollahi, were able to keep up their hustle and the first half ended with the score tied at 1-1 .

In the second half, the Bisons made a few mistakes with their passing and fouls giving the Warriors opportunities to score, and the lead at 3-2 .  With three minutes left in the game, Yaser gave so much energy trying to score but the opponent’s defense successfully blocked his good shots! Sadly, the soccer season is over for the Bisons.

Thank you for your support during the season!

Record: 10 wins  6 losses

10/21/25

Yesterday, the Falcons of the Stanley G. Falk School was the last team the Bisons played in the regular season.

The Falcons canceled the first match last week and the game was postponed to this past Monday leaving us to play them two consecutive days.

In both games, the Bisons outmatched and outscored the Falcons with our boys easily dominating both games like a cat playing with a mouse. Monday’s game ended with the score of 9 -1 while yesterday had us winning 6 -1.

Today, we travel to Perry NY, for our semi final match against Gilead.  If the Bisons win, the championship game against Chesterton will be next Tuesday.  Wish us luck!

Record: 10 wins 5 losses

10/17-10/18

This past weekend, the Bisons took a trip to New Jersey for the ESDAA soccer tournament along with teams from seven other deaf schools.

It was a blessing to have perfect weather between summer and autumn for the whole weekend!

On Friday afternoon, our first match was against West Virginia; the Bisons won 3-0.

Later in the evening, a skills competition took place in the gym where an individual player from each team shot 3 balls respectively.  Out of 80 players, Khyier Richardson won first place with the highest number of points!

In the semi final game Saturday morning, the Bisons played against Virginia.  In overtime,  Yaser Abdollahi scored a third goal that moved the Bisons into the championship bracket!

The championship game took place on Saturday afternoon between the Bisons and the Roosters of Rhodes Island.  With the score at 0-0 in the second overtime, the referee standing a distance away who had the sun in her eyes and was not wearing sunglasses, thought she saw our defense tripping the opponent giving the Roosters a penalty kick which resulted in a goal and ended our hopes of winning the championship.

At the awards ceremony,  Jaryel Negaton-Vasquez and Caleb Zirpola received All-Star medals; Yaser was voted the MVP of the tournament!  There was also a second place trophy for the Bisons.

As a side note, Yaser had five goals altogether and was an awesome leader on the field for the Bisons! A humble player who consistently played numerous of invaluable performances, too many to be mentioned in this email, Yaser deserves praise not just because of his exquisite skills, but also because he inspired, encouraged, led, and cared for EACH of his teammates throughout the tournament both on and off the field!

10/15/25

The Bisons travelled to Central Baptist School, home of the Lions yesterday.

The captain of our team, Yaser Abdollahi, scored the first goal followed by goals from Fahim Shah and Dylan Lewis.  The game ended with a Bisons’ victory - 3 to 1 .

This weekend, the ESDAA soccer tournament will be held in Trenton, New Jersey where eight teams, including the Bisons, will gather.  In addition to SMSD, the competing teams include Rhodes Island, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and Rome, NY.

If you get the chance, please wish the boys good luck!

Record: 6 wins 4 losses

10/7/25

The Bisons travelled to the Warriors of Chesterton Academy of Buffalo last Tuesday - the day of all day rain! They boys were thrilled to be wet and covered in mud because since day one of the soccer season, the sun has been out for every game and practice!

The Warriors controlled the tempo for most of the game and led with the score of three to zero.  Our squadron struggled to bring the ball into the opponent's zone the entire game except for the last 3 minutes when Yaser Abdollahi used all the energy and strength left in him to fire his shot like a cannon into the corner of the net!  Yaser inspired the offense, leading Fahim Shah to sprint ahead of the opponent's defense when the ball flew over and he scored!  Lastly, Fahim kicked the ball so hard that it went through the goalie's hands and above his head. Unfortunately the ball struck and bounced off the top bar of the net!

The Bisons fell to the Warriors by the score of 4-2 .

Our game yesterday against Falk was rescheduled to Oct 20th .

Record: 5 wins 4 losses

10/2/25

The Bisons herded to the Eagles of CAWNY (Christian Academy of Western New York) school.

We defeated CAWNY in our season opener.

In the first half of today’s game, we led by one goal.  Yaser Abdolliah scored for the Bisons twice and assisted Nick Labelle with his second goal of the season!  Nick will be out for the remainder of the season and we wish him well.

No goal was made by either team in the second half.  Our squad improved with passing, ball control, and time of ball possession.

The final score was 3 to 1.

Record : 5 wins 3 losses

9/30/25

The Bisons played the Gilead Christian School Warriors for the second time of the season on our field today.

Both teams placed such strong defense that no score was made until the second half.  The Warriors had many opportunities with shots at our net forcing Dylan Lewis to make 28 saves!

The referee called out one of our defenders in our zone, which gave the Warriors the advantage of a penalty kick. Dylan Lewis did a good job nearly stopping the penalty kick, however the ball rolled over his arm!

Our captain, Yaser Abdollahi, made a few great shots but the Warrior defenders managed to block each one.

The Bisons fell to the Warriors with the score of 1-0!

Record: 4 wins 3 losses

9/26/25 – 9/27/25 RSD HOMECOMING

This past weekend , the Bisons attended a homecoming weekend event hosted by the Rochester School for the Deaf along with two other teams - Ernest Drury/Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf from Milton & Belleville, Ontario, Canada, and the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf from Philadelphia.

The Rochester Wildcats and Bisons kicked off the first homecoming game on Friday afternoon. Yaser Abdollahi tied the score at 1-1 in the first half. Many shots were attempted by both teams but the score remained a tie before the beginning of the second half.

We successfully changed our strategy in the second half putting one extra man on offense and for the defensemen to play closer inside the Wildcats zone. This move gave the Bisons a one goal lead scored by Yaser.

With a few seconds left in the game, our squad became overconfident and eased back. The opponent used its last bit of energy to sprint into our zone and score! Luckily the referee caught an offside.  Our lead remained allowing a 2-1 victory!

Our next game took place on Saturday morning against Ernest Drury/Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf.

The game was not as competitive as the game versus the Wildcats.  The Bisons were too much for them and I had to hold back our boys from shooting more goals.

Before asking Yaser to leave the shots to the younger players, he made the first four goals. Nick Labelle was thrilled to have his first goal of the season; Caleb Zirpola and Hussam Alabid each chipped in one. Dylan Lewis had the last goal before the coaching staff told the boys to not score anymore.

The final score was 8 to 0

Record : 4 wins 2 losses

9/23/25

The Bisons hosted the Central Baptist  Lions JV

squad at our field this afternoon.  They played very well for a junior varsity squad.

Scoring for SMSD were Captain Yaser Abdollahi who earned another hat trick along with one goal each from Khyier Richardson and Fahim Shah.

In the second half,  defensemen Hussam Alabid, Ifeanyi Nwebueze, Caleb Zirpola, and Jaryel Negaton Vasquez, together with goalkeeper Dylan Lewis, gave the opponent's offense a taste of varsity level play keeping the Lions scoreless.

Add another win to our record with the final score of 5-2.

Record: 2 wins - 1 loss

9/18/25

Gratefully, the Bisons had another beautiful day to play a soccer game against the Knights of Chesterton Academy of Buffalo yesterday.

The game was very competitive and enjoyable to watch! Unlike the game against the JV of CAWNY last Tuesday, our boys had high levels of  motivation, determination, and strength against the Knights.

After a good and long battle in the first half, the opponent scored the first goal. Yaser Abdolliah tied the score with his unstoppable, zigzagging dribble through all of the defensemen right up to the goal keeper and scored!

The Knights had a full bench of substitutes, while the Bisons' only one, leaving us unable to maintain our energy, conserving it for better opportunities. Our opponent managed to score three more times in the second half.  With a minute left, Fahim Shah found a hole in the defensive line, sprinted through and earned himself a goal!

The game ended in a loss, 4-2 .

Record:  1 win 1 loss

9/16/25

Bisons had their season opener today against CAWNY (Christian Academy of Western New York).

We made a surge of seven goals all within the first ten minutes of the thirty-minute first half.  We need competition to test and improve our skills and teamwork but unfortunately, our opponent was greatly outmatched!

Our boys had the chance to play different positions as an experiment to find their strengths and weaknesses.

Yaser Abdolliah scored a hat trick in less than 5 minutes and came up with 3 assists to Fahim Sigh, the fastest sprinter of the team, who also had a hat trick. Khyier Richardson netted a goal .

Yaser Abdolliah was pulled from the offense and played defense with Khyier and Jaryel. The opponent barely played in our zone and was scoreless in the second half.

The game ended with the score of 7-1

Record:  1 win 0 loss
